Our Water Pump in Africa
Posted or Updated on 28 Nov 2024
Back in June of this year, you may recall we published a story on our website explaining that we were taking part in a scheme with Aquaid, who supply water coolers and bottles for all our surgeries.
Under the scheme, for every purchase we make from Aquaid, an automatic donation is made to partner group The Africa Trust which finances the building of a water pump in a part of Africa where clean and fresh drinking water is desperately needed.
We are delighted to have been advised this week that the ‘NM Health Innovations’ water pump has now come into operation.
Our pump is located in Manicaland in the North East Highlands of Zimbabwe.
This ‘Elephant Pump’ is a modified version of an age-old Chinese rope pulley system and these pumps have helped save the lives of many children in Africa.
By having a well on-site, households no longer need to walk an average of seven miles per day to collect water, often from contaminated sources. This task usually falls to the children or women of the community.
The pump can produce up to 10,000 litres of safe drinking water per day, benefiting up to 300 people. This reliable supply of clean water enables the community to meet their daily needs and use water for productive purposes.
Here at NM Health Innovations, we are very proud to be able to support such a vital and worthwhile venture and we look forward to continuing to support this project in the future.
