Addiction services

HELP is available

Recovery help for addiction can come from various sources, such as therapy, counseling, support groups, online resources, and helplines. These options provide emotional support, friendship, connectedness, knowledge, understanding, tips, strategies, and treatment programs to help people overcome their addictions. Some of the therapies that may help include cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and mindfulness therapy, which focus on changing the thoughts and behaviors that contribute to addictions.

Sources of Help for Addiction RecoveryTherapy and Counseling

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT helps individuals identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors that contribute to addiction. It equips people with coping strategies to deal with triggers and stressors.

Mindfulness Therapy: This therapy focuses on being present in the moment and developing a non-judgmental awareness of one's thoughts and feelings. It helps reduce stress and prevent relapse by promoting emotional regulation and self-awareness.

Support Groups

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Narcotics Anonymous (NA): These groups offer peer support and a sense of community for individuals struggling with addiction. They follow a 12-step program that promotes recovery through mutual aid and accountability.

Online Resources and Helplines
Online Support Communities: Websites and forums dedicated to addiction recovery provide a platform for individuals to share their experiences, seek advice, and find support from others who understand their struggles.

Helplines:

National and local helplines offer immediate assistance, resources, and referrals to treatment programs for individuals in crisis or seeking help with addiction.

Benefits of Recovery Support

  • Emotional Support: Therapies and support groups offer a safe space for individuals to express their feelings and receive encouragement from others who understand their challenges.
  • Friendship and Connectedness: Building relationships with others in recovery can reduce feelings of isolation and provide a network of support.
  • Knowledge and Understanding: Educational resources and counseling provide valuable information about addiction and recovery strategies.
  • Practical Tips and Strategies: Therapists and peers share effective coping mechanisms and techniques for managing cravings and avoiding relapse.
  • Structured Treatment Programs: Professional treatment programs offer a comprehensive approach to recovery, including medical support, therapy, and aftercare planning.

By utilising these resources, individuals can find the support and tools they need to overcome addiction and achieve long-term recovery.
